Does Twilight/Loid Forger Finish his Mission in Spy x Family?

It’s Forger. Loid Forger.

Anime’s current favorite spy seems to be getting as much attention these days as James Bond did when the first Bond movie came out.

Tatsuya Endo’s ongoing Shonen espionage-comedy has taken the world by storm. Veteran spy Twilight aka Loid Forger is only 2 episodes into his new mission, and things are already getting exciting, especially with the recent entry of his “wife,” Yor Briar.

But how exactly does Yor fit into Loid’s mission? What’s role could Anya, a 5-year-old girl, play in a government spy mission? Today, I’m going to break down Loid’s secret mission – what it is, its goal, and whether he fulfills it.

What is Twilight’s Mission?

Twilight/Loid’s mission is called Operation Strix. Its overarching objective is to prevent the National Unity Party from igniting a war between the two rival nations of Westalis and Ostania.

Loid is tasked with monitoring Donovan Desmond, a political extremist and chairperson of the National Unity Party in Ostania. Desmond is believed to be the mastermind who wishes to damage the truce efforts between the 2 governments.

Desmond is a social recluse who only attends his son, Damian’s school functions. So, in order to trail and get close to him, Loid must enroll a fake child at the school so he can attend the same event and take Desmond down.

Does Twilight Finish his Mission?

Twilight’s mission is ongoing, but he has already completed 2 parts of Operation Strix: acquired a fake child and enrolled her at Damian Desmond’s school, and gotten a wife who will come with him to Eden Academy’s family interview.

Every mission has multiple sub-missions that will help an agent inch towards their ultimate goal.

The first step was to establish a fake identity. Easy peasy! Agent Twilight easily slips into the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger.

The second step is a bit more complicated: Loid has to adopt a child and get them admission into Eden Academy, a prestigious school that lets in only the smartest and most elite candidates.

This is where Anya comes in. When Loid visits the orphanage in search for a fake child that he can make his own, he spots the cute 5-year-old pink-haired Anya.

Now, Anya, as we know, is no ordinary child. She is an esper, a mind-reader, with an obsession with spies. She has already been in and out of several facilities and foster homes because of her telepathic idiosyncrasies. But when she realizes that Loid is a real spy, she decides that he would be the ideal father for her.

She reads his mind and completes a difficult crosswords puzzle in the matter of a few seconds. Impressed, Loid adopts her and takes her home.

With difficulty, Anya passes the admissions exam. The next admission round requires that both parents of the pupil must be present for a family interview at the school.

Loid has no female friends or colleagues. This is where Loid encounters his first real hurdle.

Franky Franklin, a man who works for Loid’s spy organization (WISE) tries and helps Loid out by dressing as a woman, but he doesn’t fool anyone.

While Loid and Anya are at the boutique getting new clothes, they bump into Yor, a secret assassin, who has torn her dress in the process of a recent mission.

Yor is the one who approaches Loid and asks him to be her pretend-boyfriend for an upcoming party. Loid strikes a bargain and agrees, on the condition that she accompanies him to the school interview.

There are also other missions that Loid fulfils along the way, like saving Anya from a kidnapping, and retrieving 78 art pieces that were stolen from Westalis.

In a suave move, while Loid is fighting the bad guys, he snags a giant diamond ring, which he later uses to propose to Yor with.

Although Yor and Loid are both using each other, neither know what the other is up to. Both, assassin and spy, lead their double lives thinking they are undercover.

But Anya, who knows everything because of her telepathic abilities, is on her own mission to keep this fake family together.

Loid’s True Mission

Loid might be a first-class spy who completes all his missions with perfection, but he has a mission he is not yet even aware of: parenthood.

This impossible mission is one that cannot be finished with his usual style. Fatherhood can be hard, irrespective of the fact that your child is a mind-reader.

Loid has also had a rough childhood – he is a war orphan and has faced darkness and trauma, much like Anya, even though he might not know that yet.

Bonding with a child is especially tough for Loid because all his life he has been taught to be emotionless and stoic.

But Anya has already changed something in Loid. In these 2 episodes he has learned to laugh. He is protective of Anya and behaves like any real father should – getting upset about her bad grades, and annoyed when she interferes with his work.

With what I’ve seen, I can be sure that Loid is going to ace this mission of fatherhood as brilliantly as Operation Strix.
