Does Lucifer Have a Twin Brother Michael in Real Life?

Fans may have loved the double trouble on the Netflix series Lucifer after a twin brother of the King of Hell surfaced in season 5. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t wondering how is such a twist justified. Did Lucifer have a twin for real?

Did Neil Gaiman write a twin brother for Lucifer when he created the original DC Comics character, which inspired this TV adaptation?

Or did the original, biblical Lucifer have a twin named Michael? Or, if the actor Tom Ellis who is playing Lucifer has a twin in real life (yeah, some fans are actually confused about that too and I wont ever know why)?

Anyway, so here’s what I’ve found off a quick search online. The whole Lucifer twin thing is but a figment of imagination exclusive to the Netflix adaptation of Lucifer with no correlation to reality whatsoever.

While Michael Demiurgos is a character commonly related to Lucifer as a fellow archangel and the dutiful son of god, he is far from the ignoble twin from the Netflix series.

Also, no, Tom Ellis has himself portrayed both Lucifer and Michael in the series: he does not have a twin brother.

Needless to say, the introduction of Michael into Lucifer’s Los Angeles life has opened a whole can of worms that can feed the series plot for a whole new season going forth.

1. Who is Michael Demiurgos?

Based on the DC comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Lucifer revolves around Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the Devil, who abandons his throne in Hell in favor of the city of angels-Los Angeles.

While there, he establishes a nightclub and becomes a consultant for the Los Angeles Police, and mainly Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), to solve crimes.

Meanwhile, celestial beings continue to run in and out of LA, a majority of which are trying to get him to return to the Underworld.

At the end of season four, Lucifer Morningstar finally returns to rule over hell. But it seems the writers dint want Tom Ellis off of earth and so in season 5, his twin archangel Michael decides to fill in for Lucifer on earth.

2. Does DC Lucifer have a twin?

While there is not a Lucifer twin in the DC comics per se, there is a Michael Demiurgos who is Lucifer’s brother and also an archangel. DC Michael is very different from Netflix Michael.

For starters he doesn’t share Lucifer’s long nose and broad jaw, I mean they aren’t identical, not that he wasn’t handsome.

Long blonde locks, a sharp effeminate face upon a massive muscular physique – he was like the love child of a BTS member and Arnold Schwarzenegger!

Not being pedophilic but the DC Michael would appeal to multiple generations, and genders!

In fact, in the comics, Michael is seen as patient and kind but not someone who will stand by as injustice prevails.

Michael is also alone among his kind in that he can conceive children. Unlike Lucifer, he won’t use creatures as pawns on chess board, and thus portrays the humanity which Lucifer often lacks.

On the TV series, so far Michael seems just the opposite of his comics counterpart. In fact, some say Amenadiel is closer to the DC version of Michael than Michael himself.

The show’s version of Michael sees him jealous and angry, at odds with his kin and with Lucifer, and thus it is still unclear how closely related they will be to each other in the second half of season 5 and season 6.

3. Does Biblical Lucifer have a Twin?

The archangel Michael is so real that he is not just an archangel in Christianity, but also Judaism and Islam.

Before humans, before gods, before life, and even before the Creation of the DC Multiverse, Yahweh, the Almighty, is said to have created two brothers, Samael and Michael.

Yahweh then bestowed each of them gifts: to Samael, he gave the gift of fire and will and to Michael, that of creation, and the demiurgic power. Samael later renames himself Satan after being banished from hell.

In the new testament, Michael leads God’s armies against Satan’s forces in the Book of Revelation. During the war in heaven, he successfully defeated Satan and it is this version of Michael that appears in the Lucifer comics.

Again, Michael isn’t a twin but a sibling to Lucifer like any other archangel.

4. Does Tom Ellis have a twin?

Again, no, Tom Ellis does not have a twin brother who looks exactly like him. He is in fact an only child to his parents.

5. What does Twin Twist mean for S6?

In the season 5, we see how Michael manages to convince Chloe (Lauren German), Ella (Aimee Garica) and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) that he is indeed the real Lucifer.

This does not go down well with the real Lucifer who is known to be unusually bothered by someone pretending to be the King of Hell from the start of the series on FOX.

The mid-season finale ends with Lucifer and Michael battling it out in an LAPD office while joined by Amenadiel (E.B. Woodside). The moment when god intervenes!

The coming of god is in itself a powerful plot twist. Add to it the plethora of ways in which the Michael-Lucifer dynamics can turn the story and you’ll know why the show’s writers chose not to end the series with season 5 and have a season

6. Common Theories

Picking up the most common theories from Reddit, I have some of them listed below.

Some fans expect Michael to meddle with Chloe and Lucifer’s relationship to carry out god’s plan of keeping the King of Hell where he  belongs.

Or he could have a truce with Lucifer and turn against god, resulting in god’s death.

Maybe Michael is able to make both Luci and daddy god realise a new way of looking at the prophecy stating evil will be released when Lucifer shall walk the earth.

Or he could help Chloe get closer to Lucifer opening the possibility of a happily ever after, except in hell.

You may have noticed how the predictions soon went in favor of Michael. That is because the creators themselves have admitted to a positive end to Michael’s character.

“The one thing I’ll say is that it was very important to us to make sure Michael was the hero of his story.”

Joe Henderson, Showrunner

“That’s one of the things you don’t see a ton of in the first half, but it is something we will dig into later and understand his perspective and that is an element of it.”

There you go Lucifans, that’s all j have on Lucifer’s twin Michael. Comment below and let me know if you have any other ideas about how Michael’s entry as Luci’s twin could change the story.
