Bell’s innocent and hard-working personality has attracted many women; however, he himself is unaware of it.
Rather than unaware, it might be appropriate to say that he hasn’t been in a romantic relationship before and does not understand what that feels like.
Initially, his goal was to catch up to Aiz, and he saw her as a strong and reliable figure; however, is that all he feels towards her right now? Similarly, he has endless respect for Hestia and cares for her immensely.
It can even be said that the relationship between them is the strongest we have seen so far. However, does Bell care for her as his Goddess, or does he see her in a romantic light?
With the main character himself being unable to sort out his feelings, it is difficult for the fans to predict who Bell will end up with. All we can do is analyze his relationship with the possible love interests and place our bets on “the one.”
1. Does Bell Love Hestia?
Hestia was there for Bell when no one else was and is undoubtedly someone who holds great importance in his life.
For a long time, he was the only member of Hestia’s familia and worked hard to support them. Due to this, both share a very deep bond and will do anything to protect each other.
While initially of the opinion that mortals shouldn’t have romantic relationships with gods, after meeting the mayor and witnessing his death, he started to waver.
He admitted that he always wants to be with Hestia, though he was unsure what to make of his feelings.
Bell loves Hestia in Danmachi; however, it isn’t in a romantic manner. The love he feels for her is the desire to protect and worship his Goddess. While it does seem that he may view her in a romantic light, it hasn’t reached that level yet.
2. Does Hestia Love Bell?
Hestia loves Bell and has done so since the moment he joined her Familia. The relationship between them is very deep, and Hestia worries a lot about Bell’s safety and health.
Furthermore, she gets extremely jealous when he interacts with any other girl or possible love interest.
However, at the same time, she is well aware of the consequences of a Goddess and human falling in love with each other.
This was seen when she told the mayor that Brigid was just playing with him while he fell in love and devoted his whole life to her.
While it may seem that Hestia is unabashedly in love with Bell, in actuality, she is cautious in her approach. As the series progresses, the boundary between a Goddess and her child has started to become blaringly obvious.
3. Will Bell and Hestia End Up Together?
With their current relationship as a Goddess and her child, things will never be that simple for the two.
The first barrier between Hestia and Bell is their age and life-span. While Hestia does have the makings of a 15-20 something-year-old woman, she is old.
And by old I mean, more than a thousand years old. Even if taking “love transcends age” into account, Hestia’s immortality, or Bell’s lack of it, is what actually makes things so complicated.
Hestia is an immortal, and Bell is a human, making it so that the latter will perish one day. Even if they love each other deeply during his mortal life-span, it isn’t realistic or fair for Hestia to see her “lover” die while she lives for eternity.
Bell and Hestia will not end up together because their relationship has been fixed from the very beginning. One is a Goddess, and the other is her child, and that’s all there is to it.
Even if they wish to change the nature of their relationship, it isn’t possible because, in the long run, all it will bring them is pain.
4. Does Bell Love Someone Else?
With Hestia out of the question, let’s look at other significant love interests.
I. Liliruca Arde
While their initial meeting was rocky at best, Bell never abandoned Lili. After she became free of her familia and joined Hestia’s familia, both of them shared a very friendly relationship.
Bell views Lili as a little sister and has a strong desire to protect her. He has deep faith in her skills as a supporter and strategist, but in the end, that’s all there is to it.
He does not romantically love Lili and hasn’t noticed her strong feelings for him.
On the other hand, while Lili’s initial interest in Bell was to use him to earn money, after his refusal to abandon her, she realized that he was different from the other adventurers and fell in love with him.
Lily and Bell will not end up together because the latter thinks of her as a little sister. With Lily accepting this fact, the two have sealed their relationship as close friends, and nothing more.
Bell fell in love with Ais at first glance when she saved him from a minotaur. Ever since then, both of them have come to each other’s aid, whenever necessary, and have shared a deep friendship.
However, as the series progresses, this friendship has started to evolve into something else.
The entire story seems to be pushing Bell and Ais together, and it seems to be working.
While Ais was extremely curious and interested in Bell initially, towards volume 11, she started showing jealousy whenever he was around girls. This was the first indicator that she might like him romantically.
Furthermore, it seems that Bell is helping her understand her emotions and seeing past her goal. While Ais is not looking for a boyfriend but a hero, and Bell indeed has the capability of becoming that. After all, he is the adoptive grandson of Zeus himself.
Bell and Ais will end up together in the end as the story itself wills it. Bell gained the skill, Liaris Freese and gained a new lease on life thanks to her, whereas Ais came to terms with her emotions and feelings because of him.
Bell already loves Ais, and it is only a matter of time before she realizes the same.
5. About DanMachi
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, also known as DanMachi for short, is a Japanese light novel series written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda.
The story follows the exploits of Bell Cranel, a 14-year-old solo adventurer under the Goddess Hestia. As the only member of the Hestia Familia, he works hard every day in the dungeon to make ends meet while seeking to improve himself.
He looks up to Ais Wallenstein, a famous and powerful swordswoman who once saved his life, and with whom he fell in love.
He is unaware that several other girls, deities and mortals alike, also develop affections towards him, most notably Hestia herself. He also gains allies and improves himself with each new challenge he faces.
