Is Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village movie worth watching in cinemas?

You would think a film titled “To the Swordsmith Village” would primarily be about that, right? Haha, wrong! Except it’s not funny.

Many fans who didn’t do their homework before buying tickets got majorly ticked off and even walked out halfway through the screening. So, now the question is, should you still bother watching the movie or wait it out?

Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village movie is worth watching if a cinematic experience is your main focus. Otherwise, it fails to introduce any fresh elements to the overarching story, and it’s better to wait for the next season to release.

1. Is Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village movie canon?

The movie Demon Slayer: To the Swordsmith Village is 100% canon. It’s adapted straight from the manga, just like the show.

The film is so dedicated to the material that the studio didn’t even bother to make any edits between the episodes to give it a more coherent feel. No special soundtrack, no director’s cut, nada.

Now, here’s the thing: it’s not a standalone project. On its own, calling it a “movie” doesn’t make much sense, and you need to watch the entertainment district arc in the second season before jumping into it.

And keep in mind it only shows the first episode of the swordsmith village arc, so you’ll be left hanging when it ends.

2. Is Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village movie skippable?

If you aren’t going to the theatre with a bunch of friends on a fun night out, then it’s totally reasonable to sit this one out.

You can skip Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village movie since it is mainly a recap of season 2. Moreover, season 3 will also have the extended version of the first episode of the Swordsmith Village Arc.

Those who have already seen the last two episodes of season 2 might find it redundant. Also, people excitedly anticipating the upcoming season don’t have to wait too long until it’s released.

So why not save a few bucks and treat yourself to something nice instead?

3. Is there any reason to watch Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village movie?

Watching a movie on the big screen has its charm, and sharing the experience with fellow fans makes it even more memorable.

For those who can’t bear to wait any longer eagerly for new content from the Swordsmith Village Arc, this is a chance to catch the beginning of the arc a full month before its official release.

If you loved the climax of the second season so much that you’re willing to pay to watch it again on a bigger screen, go for it!

4. Demon Slayer movie or episodes – which one should you watch?

The Demon Slayer movie and episodes tell the same story, so you won’t miss any major plot points if you watch either one. I find watching the seasonal episodes more enjoyable as they flow better.

Each episode builds on the last, and you get to immerse yourself in the story and the characters.

Of course, watching the anime takes longer than watching the movie, so that is something to keep in mind. But if you’ve got the time, I highly suggest going for the episodes.
