Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc Screenings Earn Over 1 Billion Yen

The theatrical world tour screenings of the upcoming Demon Slayer anime Demon Slayer: The Upper Ranks Gather and Onward to the Swordsmith Village sold 810,000 tickets and earned 1.15 billion yen (8.73 million USD) in its first three days in Japan. The film topped the weekend box office. 

The screenings began on February 3 in 418 theaters in Japan. The screenings include episodes 10 and 11 of the Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc, along with the first Swordsmith Village Arc Episode.

The screenings are set to play in theaters in over 95 countries and territories. The countries the world tour screenings will be taking place in include Japan, United States, Canada, France, Mexico, Germany, South Korea, Taiwan.  

The new arc is directed by Haruo Sotozaki, with Akira Matsushima as character designer and chief animation director at Ufotable Studio. The main cast from the series are all returning for the new arc. 

The Demon Slayer manga was first launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016. It completed publishing in May 2020 and the manga’s 23rd compiled book volume was published in December 2020.

About Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoge. Its publication in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump began in February 2016 and ended in May 2020 with 23 collected tankōbon volumes.

In a world filled with demons and demon slayers, Kimetsu no Yaiba follows the lives of two siblings Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado after— the murder of their family at the hands of a demon. Their hardship does not end there, as Nezuko’s life is spared only for her to live as a demon.

As the oldest sibling, Tanjiro vows to protect and cure his sister. The story traces the bond of this brother-sister or better yet, demon slayer and demon combo against the odds of an arch antagonist and the society.
