Demon Slayer Manga Finished: Was it a happy ending or not?

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s manga released chapter 205 today. This chapter marks the end of Demon Slayer’s journey of more than 4 years.

As with all series, the final chapter included color pages and tied up many loose ends of the story, while at the same time, it left room for possible spin-offs.

During the series, Tanjiro accomplished his major goals — to turn back Nezuko into a human and to defeat the Demon King, Muzan. With the dust now settled over the battlefield, it’s time to look back and ask — was this a happy ending?

1. For the Demons

Demon Slayer’s manga has an interesting characteristic. From the start of the series, the manga has been portrayed in a way that makes us sympathize with the demons and not condemn them.

In most manga series where demons are involved, they’re seen as vile and vicious creatures who don’t care about anything except filling their stomachs with human flesh.

Demon Slayer’s manga shows us that these demons were humans at one point of time, and in most cases, they had undergone a terrible fate to become who they are now. From Gyutaro’s desire to protect his sister to Akaza’s desire to protect those who cared for him, we see a strong sense of love, which became the root of their demonization.

After most of the important demons’ deaths, we see them in a spiritual plane interacting with the ones they lost. To me, that seems like a happy ending for them.

2. For the Humans

This long journey to end Muzan’s millennia-long reign has seen many casualties. Even though Demon Slayer is not full of gore, readers have seen many characters being killed in Tanjiro’s journey.

However, in most cases, the Demon Slayers who were killed were honored to die fighting for the cause, and the only regret they had was that they couldn’t do more.

Yes, Nezuko has been cured, and Muzan has been defeated, but with the battlefield swamped with the blood of allies, it is hard to feel victorious.

Chapter 205, titled “A Light That Shines Through Time,” sees the future of humanity in modern-day Tokyo, where everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.

This chapter is a fitting conclusion to the series as this is what the Demon Slayers fought for — a world where people don’t have to live in terror.

As an added bonus, we see the destiny of many characters through their descendants. We see a reincarnated Kanroji and Iguro finally being able to live as a normal couple. We see a reincarnated Sanemi reunited with his brother.

In conclusion, yes, Demon Slayer’s manga has a pretty happy ending.

3. About Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoge. Its publication in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump began in February 2016 with 19 collected tankōbon volumes released as of present.

In a world filled with demons and demon slayers, Kimetsu no Yaiba follows the lives of two siblings Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado after the murder of their family at the hands of a demon. Their hardship does not end there, as Nezuko’s life is spared only for her to live as a demon.

As the oldest sibling, Tanjiro vows to protect and cure his sister. The story traces the bond of this brother-sister or better yet, demon slayer and demon combo against the odds of an arch antagonist and the society.
