Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, is a disfigured mercenary with the superability to regenerate and possess superhuman strength. The first two installments of Deadpool have been a critical and commercial hit with praises pouring in for its unconventional humorous elements.
Deadpool is finally set to make his MCU debut with the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie. The movie has been in the works for quite a while now, though no release dates have been announced yet.
Besides serving as a producer for the Deadpool films, Reynolds is also set to reunite with Free Guy and Adam Project director Shawn Levy on Deadpool 3.
Deadpool 3 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently addressed the possibility of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor appearance in the franchise’s third installment.
The acquisition of Fox’s movie and TV assets by Disney opens the door for those movies and TV series to be featured within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, allowing the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all their tie-in characters to interact with the MCU’s heroes. There are already plans to reboot the Fantastic Four, and, likely, the X-Men will also follow suit in some way. The Deadpool franchise, however, will essentially be absorbed into Kevin Feige’s universe.
With Marvel Studios now on board, Ryan Reynolds is now set to make his MCU debut with Wade Wilson through the threequel. Deadpool 3 will be the first R-rated film under Marvel Studios.
So, which MCU hero might first cross paths with Deadpool? Well, thanks to a Netflix collaboration, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor could be the answer.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, writers of Deadpool 3, discussed their work on Ryan Reynolds’ first Marvel Studios film in an interview with Den of Geek.
While Reese and Wernick are tight-lipped on Deadpool 3 plot details, it has long been thought that Thor, who appeared in Netflix’s Spiderhead with the writers at the helm, might make an appearance in Deadpool 3.
When asked about this possibility, Reese said, “Oh man, if he did, we certainly couldn’t talk about it. [But] it’d be super cool”.
Wernick and Rheese cannot discuss details of Deadpool 3 for obvious reasons. Considering the film has been in development for some time now, they probably have a pretty good idea of what its general storyline will be.
Despite the threequel being under Marvel Studios, it is still unclear if it will actually be included in the main MCU timeline. Given the endless possibilities with the concept of the multiverse, the events of the film may have occurred on an entirely different Earth, with Wilson being able to travel to Earth-616 or the Sacred Timeline.
Unless it’s a meta-reference for both Hemsworth and his God of Thunder character, this is the only way to see Hemsworth’s Thor character in the movie.
A Thor and Deadpool interaction in Deadpool 3 would be a sight to behold. Given the God of Thunder’s more humorous persona after Thor: Ragnarok, this is especially true.
Apart from that, it’s also an effective way of bringing attention to the fact that the Merc with a Mouth has finally joined the MCU. Thor has long been an integral part of the Marvel universe. He is the only remaining member of the main universe’s “big three” without Iron Man and Captain America. Given this, it is only natural that he welcomes Deadpool to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However fascinating the theory sounds, fans might have to wait until more details of Deadpool 3 are unveiled to get a confirmation for the cameo.
