Darling in the FranXX is a Winter 2018 anime produced as an unprecedented collaboration between A1 Pictures, Studio Trigger, and ClowerWorks.
It has been close to three years since Season 1 concluded, and fans have been desperately waiting for a Season 2 of this next modern mecha masterpiece.
Darling in the FranXX takes place in Earth’s distant future, where humanity has moved on to live in massive fortified cities called Plantations to protect themselves from Klaxosaurs.
These plantations house a squadron of mecha soldiers called FranXX, piloted by male-female pairs of teens. These teenagers are explicitly raised to operate these machines and nothing else.
Hiro, one such teenager, is unable to pilot the FranXX. As a result, his self-esteem goes down the trash until one fateful day he meets Zero Two. Zero Two is a mysterious girl capable of piloting the FranXX without a partner.
The anime moves on as Hiro partners up with Zero Two while unknown danger awaits him.
1. Release Date
Season 2 of Darling in the FranXX is not announced yet. There is no news that confirms the release of a new season of the show, but we can still expect another season to release by Fall 2022.
Despite the success of the series, it isn’t very likely to get Season 2. Studio Trigger is not known for making sequels, and the finale gave us a digestible conclusion indicating that there might not be a second season.
However, since the anime was a collaboration, there is still a chance that the anime gets renewed.
2. What To Expect From Season 2
Darling in the FranXX is an original anime, so it doesn’t have a source from which we could predict season 2.
However, if the anime does get renewed, we would see the events that follow the battle of Zero Two and Hero’s fight with VIRM.

Plantations are the fortress city that saves humanity from the Klaxosaurs, giant beasts responsible for near-extinction of humans. The only way to fight against Klaxosaurs is FranXX, giant mechas piloted by humans.
Hiro, an aspiring FranXX pilot, getting depressed from his failure to pilot FranXX, comes across Zero Two in the forest lake. Soon after the sudden attack on the plantation, Hiro was forced to join her in the FranXX.
