Cringe ‘n’ Binge With Netflix’s Latest Reality Show Too Hot To Handle

Netflix’s wild new dating series, Too Hot To Handle, is on everyone’s cues. And why not?

The show follows 10 sweet and gorgeous dummies isolated on a beach for 4 weeks, playing for love and, of course, a $100,000. And to top it all, the most apparent element of physical intimacy is a strict no-no if they want the real booty.

As per the rules, narrated by an AI, Lana, every act of kissing, coitus, or even ‘self-gratification,’ a set amount is deducted from the overall prize money.

Introduced as yet another social experiment in love, the show’s premise is obvious. To ensure these young bed hoppers learn to pause and form meaningful relationships before indulging their carnal desires.

However, minutes into the first episode, the girls begin comparing breast sizes. At the same time, men claim to be “deep thinkers” in-between rubbing sunscreen on each other’s toned bodies. Meanwhile, the snarkiest narrator is busy deriding the show’s premise and its gorgeously trashy contestants throughout.

Why would I still watch the show?

While I may not be a reality TV lover, there are at least two things I’d totally binge Too Hot To Handle for. First is the all-knowing AI Lana, and second is to witness the sheer frustration of touchless worlds for us social animals.

With the ongoing quarantine and self-imposed social distancing, this reality show is as close as it can be to ‘reality’.

And viewers can’t seem to get enough of the show’s congenial thirst, despite its hot and steamy trashiness. (For some it could be because of the latter, but hey who are we to judge. To each his own.)

I can understand if the AI may have been the show’s pre-pandemic USP. It definitely gives a peek into what could be our future on Earth – with an omnipresent AI guiding us through life with tasks, punishments, and rewards.

But a chance at understanding the sexuality of a lockdown has to definitely be its main take away now. (In my opinion that is) Isolated from all civilization and banned from any intimacy for a greater good — is just what the quarantine means for most of us.

During this time, while some report no sexual activity, others are brimming with a thirst that is soon turning into a tangible frustration.

While experts may have a lot to say on the matter, every individual can queue this show and discover a little something about their own nature for themselves, sometimes even without realizing it.

So I could give the show a binge, with a cringe as constant as lambda, for the above 2 reasons and also cuz that is the fastest way to make it through the show.

Cast of the Show

The cast is the right mix of Americans, Australians, and Europeans, giving the show an eclectic feel.

Midway through the season, 4 new contestants join the island, taking the total to 14, including Bryce Hirschberg, Chloe Veitch, David Birtwistle, Francesca Farago, Harry Jowsey, Kelechi “Kelz” Dyke, Lydia Clyma, Nicole O’Brien, Rhonda Paul, Sharron Townsend, Kori Sampson, Madison Wyborny, Matthew Smith, and Haley Cureton.

You can follow these stars on their social media profiles, which are also too hot to handle.

The guys are mostly in their late 20s except for Harry Jowsey (23). The girls meanwhile are in their early 20s except for Chloe Veitch, who is even younger, at 19. (Yes, please note the age differences and observe a moment’s silence for how pathetically shallow our sexualities remain – real and on the television).
