Criminal in Japan Commits Theft with ‘Luffy’ as an Alias

One Piece’s influence has spread far and wide and has now made its way to the world of criminals. If you thought that some fans were extreme, just wait till you hear about the latest trending news in Japan.

It only makes sense, considering that people would be inspired by our future Pirate King and his daily shenanigans.

Japan has been seeing a string of robberies in 14 prefectures since last year, and the prime suspect for that is a person or a group operating with the alias ‘Luffy.’

The mastermind behind it all is yet to be caught, but the police have confirmed that the robbers received instructions from someone named Luffy.

Authorities further elaborated that the robbers had been in contact with the Luffy person via the Telegram messenger app. The members seem to have been recruited and organized through informal ads on the social media platform Instagram as well.

Considering that there have been several cases all over the country, the police have arrested many suspects, but none of them is Luffy.

Despite the One Piece protagonist constantly voicing out his will against killing innocents, his fans in the criminal world overlooked that. One of the robberies resulted in the unfortunate death of a 90-year-old woman, Iyo Oshio, in Komae, Tokyo.

Moreover, the police have yet to confirm whether Luffy is an individual or a group, but they have found out that the source is in the Philippines. The Japanese government is now negotiating with the Filipino authorities to hand over four suspects whom they think might be Luffy.

Being a fan is good, but to tarnish a character’s image like this makes you a bad one.

I wonder what Oda sensei has to say about this whole fiasco. Maybe when things cool down, he might make a side story or filler based on this incident.
