Sir Nighteye predicted the death of Midoriya and considered him not to be an opponent for Overhaul. However, Midoriya isn’t one to fall to such predictions and is now out to change this future that Nighteye is perceiving.
His intense desire to save the needy might be the exact thing needed to change his grim future. Will he succeed?
1. Quick Answer
Sir Nighteye predicted the death of Midoriya and considered him not to be an opponent for Overhaul. However, when the incident concluded differently with Midoriya saving Eri and arresting Overhaul, Nighteye developed another theory as to why Midorya’s future changed so drastically.
The theory was that the collective energy from everyone present during the infiltration of the Shie Hassaikai compound affected the events. The united belief that they could rescue Eri converged on Midoriya and brought that outcome into being.
This outcome means that All Might’s death predicted by Sir Nighteye is not written in stone. It gives Deku hope that he can do the same for All Might and that he might be saved.
2. Can Midoriya change the future?
When Nighteye is struck by Overhaul’s attack, he mentions that he can’t see a future in which Midoriya, Mirio, and Eri make it safely from Overhaul’s terrifying power.
The Shie Hassaikai arc thus far has established Nighteye as a very cautious hero. The predicted gruesome death he saw in All Might’s future irked him and he refuses to use his power unless it’s a sure bet.
This has given him a cold outlook for the future, as what he sees seems always to come to pass no matter how he tries to change things.
When he was worried about All Might, he foresaw death, and since he believes so little in Midoriya’s strength, his new prediction of Deku dying is nothing but the start of doom. Midoriya, however, isn’t one to fall to such predictions and is now out to change this future that Nighteye is perceiving.
His intense desire to save the needy might be the exact thing needed to change his grim future.
I. How did Midoriya change the future?
When Nighteye used his quirk to view Midoriya’s future, he predicted that Midoriya would die fighting Overhaul and that the villain would escape with Eri.
However, when the incident concluded differently with Midoriya saving Eri and arresting Overhaul, Nighteye developed another theory as to why Midorya’s future changed so drastically.
When Sir Nighteye is on his deathbed, Nighteye suggests to Midoriya that the collective energy from everyone present during the infiltration of the Shie Hassaikai compound affected the events.
According to Nighteye, despite foretelling that Midoriya would die in his fight against Overhaul, the united belief that they could rescue Eri shared by Ochaco Uraraka, Tsuyu Asui, Eijiro Kirishima, and the rest of the Pro Heroes converged on Midoriya and brought that outcome into being.
II. Can Midoriya change All Might’s fate?
The prediction made by Sir Nighteye was that All Might was going to die in a gruesome manner. However, before Sir passed away, everyone pushed for a path different to his vision. The result was that their combined effort was able to change fate and his vision of Deku dying.
He learned that Deku and everyone believing in a bright future changed the outcome, so he realized that fate is never set in stone, that it can change.
Therefore he now believes All Might’s future can change. This means that All Might’s death is not written in stone. It gives Deku hope that he can do the same for All Might.
Midoriya once changed his fate, and chances are, he will change his mentor’s too. If he saves him, All Might will live to see the end of this story. He won’t be a hero anymore, but Toshinori will live to see Deku become the next symbol of peace.
III. Will Midoriya die?
Midoriya successfully avoided his death, which was predicted by Sir Nighteye. As the protagonist of My Hero Academia, Izuku Midoriya is the guy who intends to become the next Number One Hero, and in the process, establish himself as the Symbol of Peace, akin to All Might.
Izuku is the face of the show, and to say that he’ll die in the future would be preposterous.
Furthermore, the story begins with Izuku Midoriya narrating how he becomes the Number One Hero, meaning he eventually achieves his goal. As such, there’s absolutely no way that Midoriya will end up dying before the series wraps up.
The only reason the topic of his death comes up is because of the famous quote,
“You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.”
IV. Will Midoriya become the strongest Hero?
During the start of the series, Midoriya said that this was the story of how he became the greatest Hero ever. This, coupled with him inheriting All Might’s One for All, Deku, aka Midoriya, is well on his way to becoming one of the strongest if not the strongest Hero of all times.
Midoriya contains not only the power of All Might but of all the users of One of All before him. The day he can master his control over this power, his strength will likely explode.
However, while he may become the strongest, that does not guarantee him the title of the number one Hero.
Knowing how strong One for All is, and how the story is framed, Deku is likely to become the number one hero. Still, he doesn’t have to gain that position for his prediction of becoming the “greatest” Hero to come true.
He could do something genuinely heroic that is never recognized publicly or die in battle before reaching the top. Or he could become the greatest in one particular respect. The number one spot is entirely dependent on what people know and what metrics they use to measure.
