Boruto’s Power Level, Jutsu & Strength – Will he surpass Naruto?

Boruto has succeeded Naruto; however, he has yet to surpass him.

With the release of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, we get to once again delve within the world of Naruto and follow the lives our favorite characters and their kids lead.

As the main character, Boruto has one of the most steady developments in the series, and his growth is extremely satisfying to watch.

While Naruto had the Nine-Tails sealed within him, Boruto has awakened a special eye called Jougan and has received Karma from an Otsutsuki himself.

While both father and son share similar power sources and are akin to each other in many ways, in the end, Boruto is the main character.

This means that he will soon outshine Naruto, and we have already been seeing traces of that happening.

Watching Naruto becoming weaker and less significant as the series progresses, fans wonder whether Boruto will surpass Naruto and break the legends of old.

Will Boruto Surpass Naruto?

Boruto Uzumaki will most certainly surpass his dad, the 7th Hokage Naruto Uzumaki, by the end of the series since Naruto himself stated that “the younger generation must surpass the older generation.”

As it usually is with any series, the story of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has been progressing in favor of its protagonist’s strength, i.e., Boruto Uzumaki.

Time and time again, it has been established and reinforced that Kid Boruto is stronger than Naruto was when he was his age.

Sure, Naruto had massive chakra reserves and could create thousands of shadow clones, but Boruto could manipulate three Chakra Natures at the age of 13.

While he was still in the Ninja Academy, Kakashi flat-out ranked Boruto’s skills to be Chunin level, after his nearly successful attempt in taking away a silver bell.

Furthermore, as Naruto and Hinata’s son, Boruto, stems from two powerful bloodlines and has inherited a great many skills, such as Shadow Clone, Rasengan, and Gentle Fist.

With Sasuke further training him along the way, he literally has some of the greatest shinobis of all time as his mentors.

Along with his unique Dojutsu, Jougan, and the Karma mark, it is without a doubt that Borutp will surpass his father, Naruto, to become one of the greatest Shinobi of all time. After all, the new generation will always surpass the old.

Boruto’s Powers & Abilities

I. Rasengan

Boruto learned how to use Rasengan from Konohamaru Sarutobi after extensive practice.

In the beginning, he could only create a small-sized Rasengan with both his hands; however, he ultimately demonstrated the ability to create a normal-sized one.

While initially creating the Rasengan, he subconsciously applied wind-natured Chakra to it, making it his greatest technique.

Upon unleashing it, the nature transformation abruptly activates, turning it invisible, and tricks the opponent into letting their guard down. Due to this, upon impact, the Rasengan inflicts sufficient damage on the target.

II. Byakugan

Boruto cannot use Byakugan despite possessing a Hyuga bloodline, thanks to his mother, Hinata.

While Boruto currently does not have Byakugan, he has subconsciously awakened a dojutsu in his right eye called Jougan.

It grants him the ability to detect things such as Chakra, which is generally unseen by a normal eye, and pinpoint the weak points on a target’s body.

This dojutsu can perceive Chakra’s flow, enabling Boruto to see the visible changes in one’s Chakra and likewise track a target through it.

It can also determine the key point of the chakra pathway system and see-through invisible barriers that connect between dimensions.

III. Chidori

Boruto cannot use Chidori due to his lack of Sharingan; however, he can use a watered-down version of it that he learned from Kakashi.

Boruto has always been very adept at using electricity, and to take it up a notch, Kakashi is the best teacher.

In Sasuke Shinden, the most recent spin-off novel that follows Sasuke as he spends time in the Hidden Leaf, it was stated that Boruto could use purple electricity.

Boruto learned to use purple electricity from Kakashi, who developed this lesser form of Chidori after losing his Sharingan.

IV. Sage Mode

Boruto has not learned the Sage Mode and cannot use it as of now. However, as Naruto’s son, it is entirely possible for him to train hard at the Ryuchi Cave and learn it as the series progresses.

With Naruto and his teammate, Mitsuki, capable of activating Sage Mode, Boruto already has some contact with the ability. While he doesn’t need to learn it, as he already possesses Karma, no one will complain if he does.

V. Gentle Fist

Boruto has been training since young, and it is apparent in his nimble actions despite his carefree attitude. He is noticeably fast, able to quickly get behind his opponents secretly.

He displayed an aptitude for Taijutsu, even before joining the Academy while sparring with his father. In the Academy, he was able to hold his own against Iwabee, a senior student.

All of this proves that he is adept at hand-to-hand combat, i.e., Taijutsu; however, the lack of Byakugan means that he cannot utilize his Hyuga inheritance to its full potential.

Boruto can use Gentle Fist despite not possessing Byakugan. However, it is a leveled down version of it, and Boruto cannot perfect Gentle Fist unless he awakens his Byakugan or manages to use Jougan to make up for it.

VI. Flying Raijin

Boruto cannot use Flying Raijin; however, he is likely to learn it later on.

Unlike Naruto, Boruto doesn’t have the monstrous amounts of Chakra to rely on, and rather than brute strength, he has always been one to prioritize speed.

Flying Raijin, created by his grandfather, Minato Namikaze, might just be what Boruto needs as of now.

Whether he learns it or not depends on his search for a suitable teacher. However, there are almost no shinobis capable of using it in the series.
