Will Boruto Die? Will Momoshiki take over his body?

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga has finally established itself with the introduction of a new Akatsuki parallel, Boruto manga’s very own ‘mysterious crime organization’– Kara and a new Otsutsuki antagonist — Isshiki.

With Kara and Otsutsuki came a new curse seal-like mark — Karma. The Karma raised several theories, one of which was that Karma marks are like curse seals bestowed by the Otsutsuki clan to mark certain individuals as their ‘vessels.’ Being one of the individuals carrying the curse mark, is Boruto a vessel too? Will he die?

1. Will Boruto die?

Boruto Uzumaki will not die in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The Karma mark in his body is currently overwriting his “data” with that of Momoshiki’s. However, Boruto, being the protagonist of the series, will not die.

When a Karma mark is put into an individual’s body, the mark starts to extract the data slowly from the Karma into the body of the vessel.

Once the extraction is complete, the vessel’s body is overwritten by the Otsutsuki’s data. Hence, the Otsutsuki is resurrected again.

Who is Momoshiki Otsutsuki?

Momoshiki Otsutsuki, presumed to be dead, is a member of the Otsutsuki clan’s main family investigating the whereabouts of Kaguya and her God Tree and then attempting to cultivate a new one out of the chakra of the Seventh Hokage.

In the process of being killed by Boruto Uzumaki, Momoshiki placed a Karma mark on him, allowing his spirit to remain intact.

How is Boruto related to Momoshiki?

After Boruto defeats Momoshiki with the final Rasengan, Momoshiki infuses his chakra and gives Boruto a Karma mark. This mark helps the members of this clan truly resurrect and live once again after extracting all the data from their hosts.

Since Boruto has the lineage of the “Otsutsuki” on both sides of the family, he is the perfect host to help Momoshiki to resurrect later on.

How did Boruto get Karma?

When Boruto accompanied Sasuke and the others to save Naruto, Momoshiki embedded his Karma into Boruto’s right palm.

This Karma mark doesn’t just grant someone the ability to tap into the Otsutsuki Clan powers. Still, it is actually a pathway of resurrection for members of the Otsutsuki Clan.

In Boruto’s case, his Karma seal means that he is marked as the chosen vessel of Momoshiki Otsutsuki. The latter is waiting for him to mature before taking control of him.

Will Momoshiki take over Boruto’s body?

During the fight, Momoshiki embedded his Karma into Boruto’s right palm as the boy dealt a fatal blow to him using the Rasengan with Naruto’s help.

When a Karma mark is put into an individual’s body, the mark starts to extract the data slowly from the Karma into the body of the vessel. Otsutsuki has been able to transcend death itself using this mark.

Once the extraction is complete, the vessel’s body is overwritten by the Otsutsuki’s data, and hence the Otsutsuki is resurrected again.

To sum it up, the Karma mark that Momoshiki put into Boruto, is extracting the data right this second. Momoshiki is waiting for Boruto to mature before he can take control and truly resurrect.

Once Momoshiki succeeds, Boruto’s will and mind will be erased and replaced. Even though Boruto won’t be physically dead, if the extraction of data goes on without any hitches, mentally, he will be dead.
