Yaguchi Yatora has come a long way from being a delinquent to finding something that he loves to do, art.

Art spoke to him in ways he had never experienced before, a form of expressing himself without saying a word. He joins the art club at his school to learn more about art.

His passion for art makes him set his goal to enter the oil painting department of Tokyo University of the Arts, the most difficult course to enter.

Yaguchi goes on to enroll himself in a preparatory school for Art University entrance exams. Here he meets students full of individuality and it inspires him to move forward.

As the day of entrance exams draws nearer, Yaguchi finds rashes on his hands. It got worse on the day of the entrance exam and he is down with fever but this doesn’t stop him from doing what he loves.

The theme for his oil painting exam is “Nakedness is unreliable and pitiful.” He gave his all during these three days of the entrance exam to express his true self through his oil painting.

All his hard work comes to fruition when he sees his exam ticket number on the notice board in episode twelve of the anime.

Yatora Yaguchi clears the entrance exam for the oil painting to get through to Tokyo University of Arts in episode twelve of Blue Period. He is one of the three students who passed the entrance exam on the first try.

Hashida can’t miss an opportunity of seeing many art pieces in an entrance exam, when he has a fetish for art.

Besides all the stress and exhaustion the examinees have to survive three crucial days. These three days decide their fate for a chance to get into the prestigious institute of art, the Tokyo University of Arts.

4. What Happens To Ryuji Ayukawa In The End?

Ryuji Ayukawa was the one who introduced the art club to Yaguchi.

He comes from a broken family where his parents hated the fact that he cross-dresses and thinks he is up to no good. It is only through art that Ryuji finds solace amid all this chaos.

It is only Ryuji’s grandmother who supports him and encourages him to pursue Japanese art. Ryuji wanted to make his grandma’s dream come true but in the end, the stressful life at home took a toll on him.

Ryuji never truly love Japanese art but was more into fashion art. He couldn’t find the courage to tell his grandma who is always there for him.

When Ryuji’s parents threw away all of his art supplies, he took it as a way of escaping everything. He gives up on art, the art class and ends up doing a part-time job.

5. Why Does Maki Kuwana Not Get Through The Entrance Exam of Tokyo University of Arts?

Maki Kuwana comes from a family of a successful artists who mostly attended Tokyo University of Arts.

Her older sister, Yuki cleared the entrance exam on the first try which gives a lot of pressure to the already pressured Maki. She deals with a lot of inferiority complex in comparison to her older sister.

Her talent for drawing is the best in Yaguchi’s cram school but she lacks confidence in her abilities. She fails to deliver her originality during the nerve-wracking entrance exam which is reflected in the result.

Maki acts cool though she couldn’t make it and goes to watch a concert with her genius sister, Yuki.

She breaks down after the concert and lets out all her emotions as she cries saying she will try for Tokyo University of Arts next year.

Later Maki goes on to find what she is truly passionate about. It is not painting which she has been doing like her sister but surprisingly it is sculpture, a different approach to her family background.

6. About Blue Period

The Blue Period manga is created by Tsubasa Yamaguchi and published by Kodansha.  It was first serialized in Afternoon magazine in June 2017.

The Blue Period revolves around the life of Yataro Yaguchi, a highschool student. Yataro looks like a model student on the outside but fights with hollowness on the inside.

He is fascinated by a painting of the Art club and decides to take up art as a profession. His path is filled with obstacles, but he still expresses himself proudly with colors instead of words.
