For those living under a rock, Blue Lock is considered to be one of the best sports series, even better than Haikyu! in some regards. This series packs quite a kick, with manga sales in millions and being the recipient of the Kodansha awards.

Recently there have been some rumors hinting at an anime adaptation.

According to a trusted source, a new Blue Lock Twitter account was spotted along with domain registration. However, we can’t be sure until there is an official statement from the official sources.

After winning the best shonen award there were a lot of upticks in a potential anime adaptation. However, until today, there hadn’t been any new development for the series.

The story in Blue Lock follows Yoichi Isagi, a soccer player, who joins the Blue Lock initiative to become the world’s best striker and lead Japan to the world cup.

A striker is a forward position in soccer, a role with the responsibility to peel off defenders and strike goals.

The Blue Lock initiative is a prison-like facility where 300 of Japan’s best soccer players battle each other to become egoistic strikers hungry for goals. Basically, a soccer battle royale to become the very best that no one ever was!

An anime adaptation for Blue Lock is not a question of if but a question of when. So until then, check out these other sports anime that I am sure any Blue Lock fan will love.

About Blue Lock

Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2018. Blue Lock won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2021.

The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which prompts the Japanese Football Union to start a program scouting high school players who will begin training in preparation for the 2022 Cup.

Isagi Youichi, a forward, receives an invitation to this program soon after his team loses the chance to go to Nationals because he passed to his less-skilled teammate.

Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a radical new training regimen: isolate 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called “Blue Lock”.
