Black Clover 306: Zenon’s Flashback Finally Reveals His Devil, Beelzebub

So far, we’ve had enough flashbacks of the magic knights in the Black Clover manga. In chapter 306, Tabata sensei has spiced things up with an emotional flashback of a major antagonist, Zenon.

Yuno’s Spirit of Euros attack pierces through Zenon, who immediately thinks back to when he was a child.

Surprisingly enough, he was once the weakest of the Dark Triad when he was small and got picked on by other children. Another kid named Allen saved him, and soon Zenon left the path of being a devil host and aspired to be a commander of the Defence Force just like Allen.

Yet, in a battle against a devil, Zenon had to kill Allen along with the devil to contain the damage.

It was at this point that Zenon realized the value of power and made a pact with Beelzebub. After more than 300 chapters of speculation, his devil is finally revealed, and just as I thought, it is a top-ranking one.

According to Zenon, “the weak should be discarded,” but it looks like he is saying this for the sake of the weak ones. Could it be that his pact with Beelzebub gave him the power to save the people he cares for?

Allen looks like a complete replica of Asta, and this has sparked many debates in the Black Clover fandom. It seems Tabata-sensei wants to tell us that this is what Yuno would have done too if something had happened to Asta.

Yet, what distinguishes heroes from villains is the choices they make faced with the same situation. So maybe instead of discarding the weak, Yuno might have gone for protecting them.

One thing is for sure, Yuno’s last attack cannot be enough for defeating Zenon, especially considering how powerful of a devil he hosts. Langris and Yuno need to give it their all if they want to escape death and kill Zenon.
