The official Twitter account for the Bem franchise released a trailer and a key visual for its upcoming Bem Movie: Become Human on Thursday, August 20.
The movie is directed by Hiroshi Ikehata and features animation production by Production I.G. The film is scheduled to hit theatres in Japan from October 2, 2020.
It is an upcoming theatrical anime film that continues the story of the 2019 BEM TV anime, which is itself a reboot of the cult classic 1960’s Yokai Ningen BEM (“Humanoid Monster BEM”) T.V. anime about a trio of uncanny creatures disguising themselves as ordinary people and protecting humanity from monstrous threats.
The plot of the BEM movie is expected to follow that of the 2019 anime series.
Libra City is a sprawling metropolis whose districts split the rich and the poor. Hiding among the populace are three humanoid monsters—Bem, Bela, and Belo—who protect humanity and hope to one day become humans themselves.
However, when a Mysterious Lady threatens their way of life, Bem, Bela, and Belo are pulled into a plot, unlike anything they’ve ever known.
The trailer for the film has just been released online, and it looks fantastic, but fans are now left wondering how long they have to wait before they can watch it.
The trailer also previews the film’s main theme song “unforever” by Ribu.
Unfortunately, a release date for those of us outside Japan has not been revealed yet.
If we assume that the movie will premiere on either Funimation or Crunchyroll, we can expect to watch BEM – Become Human by December 2020.
The movie takes place two years after the events of the series and follows Sonia on her mission of tracking down the mysterious humanoid creatures.

It takes place two years after the events of the T.V. series and follows Sonia as she continues to try to track down the “humanoid monsters”.
Her search takes her to a drug company called Draco Chemical, where she meets a man named Belum Eyesburg, who looks precisely like Bem.
Meanwhile, Belo continues fighting on his own to let Bela live as an ordinary human girl.
After encountering Sonia, Belum begins having nightmares that make him question his own identity, and his peaceful, ordinary life with his wife and family begins to collapse.
