Discover Shun’s Past as Ao Ashi Gets a Spinoff Manga Before the Anime!

Even before the announcement of the anime adaptation, Ao Ashi was one of the most beloved sports manga in recent years.

With the recent surge in popularity, they have decided to take this opportunity to expand with the new spinoff Ao Ashi: Brother Foot.

The world of sports manga has grown as a whole due to series like Haikyu and Slam Dunk. It is very surprising to think about the lack of prominent soccer manga in the past few years, despite being the most popular sport in the world.

Ao Ashi has filled that gap, and now it is about to do some more.

The Ao Ashi spinoff series Ao Ashi: Brother Foot will be serialized in Weekly Big Comic Spirits Issue 32 on 12th July 2021. 

The spinoff manga will also be drawn by the original author Kobayashi Yuugo and will focus on the story of Ashito’s brother.

There are many characters in the series who are well-liked despite them not being the main characters, very similar to the cast of Haikyu!!. So, a spinoff about a fan favorite such as Shun is probably going to succeed.

The announcement came at a very good time as there are already many new eyes on the franchise due to the upcoming anime adaptation.

With baseball, basketball, and recently volleyball taking all the love from the sports manga fans, the time has come for Soccer to take over once again.

About Aoashi

Aoashi is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yūgo Kobayashi. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Big Comic Spirits since January 2015.

The story follows Ashito Aoi, a third year middle school student from Ehime, who meets Fukuda Tatsuya, a “J Youth League” coach.

Even though he’s still rough around the edges, Ashito has such amazing potential that he gets invited to participate in his team’s try-outs in Tokyo.
